NEST | Ericsson - Making of Timelapse Video

Its finally out!

Below is the video for the final output product for the NEST project.

Heres a summary of how things went:

-Shot over 6 days in the cold and rain.

-Fried one of our 7D cameras in the rain.

-Barely any sleep because building is 24/7

But overall, we are all happy to be part of this project.

Enjoy!

YDC Fashion Show Backstage 2012

Fashion week here in Hong Kong, and our crew came to shoot the backstage for the Young Designers Contest during the annual weeklong show.

We shot 3 backstage videos focusing on Janice Man, 18 contestants and also 7 ex-winners. All shot in one day and edited within the next day. This meant we had to move all of our computers and tech gear to a mobile office at the convention centre. But luckily we were given 5 star services with our own couch and table, so we could relax during short 5 minutes breaks, which we never got.

The YDC show was an intense day of shooting, with our 3 camera units running around trying to capture moments. Our lovely host, Karina was running with the camera crew desperately trying to get the camera shy contestants to open up. It was not an easy job, because those designers were so nervous it was like fishes dispersing when you press your finger on the aquarium glass.

Tech wise, we shot on DSLR for this show because fashion doesn’t look good with deep focus. But with the intense environment, we had to make sure our rigs were able to withstand. Each camera had input audio from the Sennhesier G3 systems, which was receiving audio transmitted from the boom operator. This was an important setup, because there was no way me and my boom operator could be next to each other in the crowd. There were instances where I spontaneously ran into a crowd to get a shot, leaving my boom operator extending his boom pole from a distance. Gotta give me boom operator Vincent Tong props for that, his boom pole was always ready wherever I point the camera. Shot on 5D and 7D, and only mainly used two lenses. 24-70 for 5D, 16-35 for the 7D. There wasn't much time to change lenses and don't think I could've shot this wihtout a zoom. The timelapses were shot on Gopro, 7D and also the Nikon D300.

Anyways, check out the videos below. It might not be perfect due to the amount of time we received for editing. But I think we did alright… ?

Wan Kwong Mr.One Music Video

A snap before we rolled camera A snap before we rolled camera

Recently our production team did the images for the new Wan Kwong music video. I was the DP on the production with our team as grip and gaffers. Although pre-production and post production wasn't ours, we can't exactly vouch for the end product. The entire music video was shot in one day, with a minimal crew at the restaurant and club. From what I can see, there was probably no color touch up in post. So images might look a bit raw. Nothing too special with the lighting because the club was just extremely small, our lights had nowhere to go. Our gaffer had problems trying to do any nice back light or anything.

We did what we could, and totally support new and upcoming director Freddie Cheung. His previous music video for Angela Au was his first music video, which we also did the cinematography for.

But nevertheless, the video was a hit on youtube welcomed local fans of Wan Kwong and KZ.

We will be releasing the NEST video soon.  Will keep updated.

Ok we're up!

Our brand new website is now officially up! On this website, we'll update regularly with news about our latest productions and some behind the scenes photos!

So check in often to see the latest updates!

Here are some BTS photos of our latest production for SMOKERHOOD.

We had some high contrast lighting going on, all the action sequences were shot on a roof top with visual effects added to stimulate a battlefield. Our model Jun was really helpful during the shoot, he was willing to go rough on himself which is rare for models these days.

NEST Project

Just finished up post production on a project for UNIPLAN. Shot a making of for an intensive construction of a structure on top of a Pier in Central. It was for a corporate meeting, and construction was to be completed in 5 days. The atmosphere was just intense, and we had a hard time shooting despite being hired by the company. Nobody likes a camera in their faces, and having cameras placed all over the site didn't look too good either.

Our team needed to be situated at time-lapse locations where we couldn't literally put a camera there for 5 days in a row, just so we could get the best angles. This meant our team sat through rain for the 5 days with little sleep. It drove us nuts, as the sounds of shutter every few seconds was not helpful.

Also one of our 7D cameras died overnight in the heavy rain. But in the end, the final product really makes it all worth it. Video will be posted up soon after approval from client.
Below are some stills from the video.

That's it for our first update. Thanks for tuning in!
